RedCarpet Editing & Proofreading Services

Maybe you’ve already had your documents translated into English, but need a second pair of eyes to make sure your texts read smoothly and are free from grammatical, semantic or terminology errors.

They have to be publication-ready, and you’re out to impress.

There are many different types of checking and review I can perform for you. Not sure which one you need, or how are they different?
Here’s a quick guide:

Proofreading

This usually entails looking over just the translated English text, without referring to the original French text. I’ll identify and fix any problems with mechanics, readability or appropriateness for the target audience.

If you want to be certain that the message of the original was appropriately conveyed in English, you will also want me to perform a…

Linguistic Review

In other words, comparing both the original and translated texts bilingually. I’ll make sure the translation is accurate, that the English version says exactly what the original does, and that it is complete.

Sometimes you need a Stylistic Review

The translation may technically be accurate, but is lacking a certain “je ne sais quoi”. It “sounds” like a translation, and your readers will notice.

I will concentrate on tailoring the text to read more naturally, in idiomatic English, so that your readers will think that it was originally written that way.

For terminology-heavy specialized texts, an additional Technical Terminology Review may also be necessary, so please let me know if you’d like to include that too!

As a famous playwright said, and with whom many translation professors would agree, “the best translators remain as invisible as possible.”

Good style can make a translation even better than its original.
